The old camera of Leitz Photographica's founder, Oscar Barnack, was predicted to fetch around $3 million at the 40th annual auction, according to PopPhoto. Barnack's 0-Series model 105, on the other hand, sold for little more than $15 million. This is more than five times the original estimate, making it the most expensive camera ever sold. The 0-Series was released two years before the Leica A to test the market. According to the Leitz Auction, only about 22 were ever produced, and less than 12 are still in existence today. The Leica 0 Model 105 series is unique due to its rarity, historical importance and unique features. As one of the first models produced in 1923, it played a key role in the evolution of photography by serving as the precursor to the commercial Leica camera. With only 31 units produced, the Model 105 represents a tangible link between the birth of 35mm photography and the beginnings of high-end mobile cameras, making it a must-see among camera collectors. ...
